About Me

Based in Louisville KY, I provide Japanese linguistic and cultural support to companies that sell their products and services to the Japanese. I translate Japanese documents into English, and interpret for face-to-face meetings and teleconferences. I teach Japanese etiquette and how to avoid faux pas.

Besides Louisville, I serve clients in the nearby cities of Bardstown, Lexington and Cincinnati. I am available for longer assignments in Tennessee, Indiana and Ohio. I lived in Japan for six years, and worked for seven years for major Japanese companies in the US.

For companies who sell to the Japanese, I offer a 6-hour workshop, "Impress Your Japanese Customers--What to know, what to do and how to do it," which focuses on overcoming the language barrier and cultural differences. Participants gain cultural skills that attract Japanese customers and earn their trust.

Throughout my career I have supported Japan-US relationships with classroom teaching, translation, interpreting and workshop facilitation. As an interpreter, I support meetings between Japanese and Americans, such as contract negotiations and factory inspections. As a translator, I have a thorough knowledge of Japanese business documents, including root cause analysis and factory audits.

Studying traditional Japanese dance in Japan taught me about honoring tradition, the quest for perfection, and how the Japanese teach and learn. I greatly respect Japanese traditional values, and their expression in Japanese manufacturing excellence, monozukuri (Japanese craftsmanship) and kaizen (continuous improvement).

After university, I gained firsthand experience with Japanese business customs while working for Sony Corporation in Tokyo and New York. This formed the basis of my work with Japanese and Americans, first teaching at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, and later as group lead for Japanese translation and cultural advisement at Panasonic Mobile Communications.
